Designing an editorial platform
for digital first publishing
Sigueleyendo was a digital first literary platform and publishing initiative led by journalist Cristina Fallarás, often referenced as an early example in Spanish language digital publishing.
This was a structural editorial intervention: defining the content model, taxonomy, issue and book templates, discovery flows, and publishing workflow before interface or implementation decisions were made.
A publishing model that needed structure
Sigueleyendo launched in a moment when digital publishing in Spanish was still forming its conventions. The platform combined an online magazine with a catalogue of original ebooks at a low, accessible price.
That hybrid model required clarity: readers needed to understand what they were reading, what could be purchased, and how new releases were organised over time.
Content model and editorial taxonomy
The first step was defining the unit of meaning. Articles, issues, books, authors and collections needed to exist as distinct objects with predictable relationships.
A lightweight taxonomy was designed to support browsing and discovery without collapsing into endless categories. The structure prioritised editorial intent over navigational decoration.
Reading, discovery and trust
Long-form reading depends on comfort and confidence. The interface and templates were designed to keep attention on the text while making the next action obvious: continue reading, explore an author, or move into the catalogue.
Navigation and search patterns were designed around reader behaviour: entry points from social and press, deep links, and returning visitors looking for recent releases.
A system that could publish consistently
Publishing is a workflow. The platform was built to reduce friction for editors, protect consistency, and allow new content to be released without redesigning the site each time.
The result was a repeatable system: templates, rules and editorial structure working together so the platform could grow while staying coherent.
Technical execution
Modular publishing architecture
The challenge was to transform a literary vision into a high performance publishing engine. I built a custom modular architecture that separated content from presentation, ensuring that long form essays remained readable across all devices.
Semantic content system
By implementing a semantic content model, we reduced editorial friction: the system automatically handles metadata, cross references, and discovery paths, allowing the platform to grow without manual structural maintenance.
This case shows how editorial systems protect reading comfort while allowing a catalogue to grow without losing coherence.
The interface supports continuity: each new release fits into a structure that readers can trust and return to.
